Frequently Asked Questions

Is the house accessible? Like many properties on the Cornish coast, the terrain surrounding the house is very hilly. Whilst this property is relatively accessible from a car parked at the top of the drive, there are two steps into the front door. The ground floor is on one level but there are two steps onto the terrace. All bedrooms are on the first floor.

Can I bring my pets? We permit one well behaved and small dog. However, we request that you use the stairgate provided to prevent the dog going onto the first floor. Downderry beach is dog friendly and there are many dog walkers. We do not provide a dog bed.

Are children welcome and is there anything for them to do? Yes, children are welcome. We have two travel cost for their use if requested and there is one stair-gate at the top of the stairs. A high-chair, plastic bowls, cups and spoons are also provided as is an 'Advent' bottle steriliser and change mat available for use. There is a sofa bed in the main bedroom and a top bunk although despite flexible bed arrangements, there are only facilities to accommodate eight people. The beach is really interesting for children as there are so many rock pools, although the sand is only exposed at low tide. Rockpools warm in the sun and we often see children splashing in them. Seaton beach is only 2 km away and can be walked to along the beach at low tide. Turning east, there are other beached beneath cliffs with interesting caves and crashing surf. The surrounding area has numerous attractions including the Monkey Sanctuary, crabbing from Looe harbour, fishing trips and many more.

What parking facilities are there? The drive is steep. We have parked two cars side by side at the top section where it flattens out but the lower part is steep; others have parked there but you will need a good hand brake. There is generally good on-road parking available immediately outside the house. There is no car battery charging facility at the moment but there is a 13 Amp socket in the garage.

What incidentals are included and excluded? All towels and linens are included but please bring your own beach towels. The beds will be made up according to your requests. Wash basins will have a soap dispenser, there will be a single loo roll per toilet, but this is self catering accommodation. Most supermarkets will deliver to this address as will some independent businesses including Pengelly's fishmongers in Looe. There is a well-stocked local convenience store usually open until 6pm (4pm on Sunday).

Is the house environmentally friendly? We try! All electricity is on a green tariff and the insulation is good so the energy needs are low. All appliances are modern and efficient. We don't think the little pots of hotel-style toiletries are eco-friendly and so provide dispensers of hand soap in each toilet room and the kitchen. All waste is recycled in one form or another and is sorted by the waste removal company.

What are the arrival and departure times? We think it is important for arriving guests to find the house clean and ready and this takes some time; we therefore ask you to leave the house in a clean and tidy manner by 10.00 am on the day of departure. This gives the cleaning team just enough time to get the house ready for the new guests to arrive at 4.00 pm.

What are the arrival details? The house will be available for your use from 4.00 pm on the day of arrival. You will be sent the address and details of how to get the key in advance of your arrival.
